Easy Korean Braised Tofu Recipe (Dubu Jorim)

Servings: 3 servings
- 14 oz firm tofu
- 1 tbsp avocado oil or any neutral-flavored oil
Braising Sauce
- 3 tbsp soy sauce or tamari sauce, for gluten free
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 2 tsp gochugaru use 1 tsp or less for a milder flavor
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp sesame seeds plus more for garnish
- 2 green onions thinly sliced, plus more for garnish
Drain the tofu from the package and cut into 1/4 inch thick slices. Use a paper towel or a kitchen towel blot the slices on both sides to remove moisture.
Add all ingredients for the sauce in a bowl and stir to combine. Set aside.
Heat avocado oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Pan fry the tofu on both for 4-5 minutes until golden and browned.
Spoon the sauce generously over each tofu until you use all of it. Lower the heat if needed so the sauce doesn't burn, and braise for 3-4 minutes.
Remove from heat and serve with warm rice. Leftovers can be enjoyed cold as well.
Expert Tips
- Use "firm" tofu for the best texture that won't fall apart while pan-frying.
- This dish is moderately spicy. You can adjust the amount of gochugaru, or Korean chili flakes, depending on your spice level.

Save leftovers of this spicy braised tofu for up to 4 days in an airtight container in the fridge. You can enjoy cold from the fridge, or warm it up before serving.
