Place your M&Ms in the freezer, as well as the sprinkles. If using homemade popcorn remove any unpopped kernels. Put the popcorn in a large bowl and toss with salt if using unsalted popcorn.
10 cups of popcorn, 1 cup Halloween M&Ms, Halloween sprinkles, 1 tsp sea salt
Heat butter in a sauce pan over medium heat. Once melted, add the marshmallows and keep stirring until just melted. Do not boil. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
¼ cup butter, 10 oz mini marshmallows, 1 tsp vanilla extract
Immediately pour over the popcorn. Use a rubber spatula to mix and coat the popcorn evenly.
Let the coated popcorn sit for 2 minutes, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Add in your candy from the freezer, as well as 2 tbsp of sprinkles. Stir to coat.
Pour some sprinkles in a small bowl, and grease or wet your hands. Use approximately 1/4 cup of the popcorn mixture to form balls (I used a ¼ cup cookie scoop), then use your hands to pack into balls. Roll each ball in the bowl of sprinkles to coat the outside lightly.
Place the balls on the parchment lined baking sheet to set. Enjoy!
- Candy swaps: Reese's Pieces or candy corn work in place of the M&Ms. Freeze them the same way.
- Storage: Cool the balls completely, then wrap each one in plastic wrap so they don't stick together. Keep them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
- Freezing: Freeze the wrapped balls for up to 2 months. Thaw at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
