Why You’ll Love This Easy Shrimp Dip Recipe

Whether you need an appetizer for the holiday season or just a delicious snack any time of the year, dips are always a crowd-pleaser. They are usually very easy to make, so addicting, and just a great thing to munch on. Since my husband’s a huge fan of shrimp, I decided to make this Easy Shrimp Dip appetizer and it’s been a huge hit!

This popular party dip comes together super quickly and easily. It’s actually perfect if you want to prepare something simple but popular for a group (shrimp lovers unite!). The flavors are tangy and it has a wonderfully creamy texture, with some crunch from the veggies like celery and green onion. Plus, you can serve it cold or hot– both ways are delicious!

It just requires easy-to-find ingredients, and you can even buy already-cooked shrimp if you want! This dip is also dairy-free, as well as Whole30 and keto-friendly.

Ingredient Notes

All you need are 8 simple ingredients, some of which you probably already have on hand.

recipe ingredients in a bowl
  • Mayonnaise: This is my favorite brand, or you can make your own!
  • Fresh Lemon Juice: A little lemon juice to brighten up this dip.
  • Prepared Horseradish: This is the one I found that’s Whole30-friendly. If you’re not doing a Whole30, use your favorite.
  • Paprika
  • Garlic Powder
  • Fresh Shrimp: Preferably wild-caught for the best flavor. You’ll need to cook it and chop it into small pieces before adding to the dip.
  • Celery
  • Green Onions
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Step-by-Step Instructions

Once you have all the ingredients for this recipe, the easiest part is making it! Here are the super simple instructions on how to make shrimp dip.

shrimp dip in a bowl topped with green onions
  1. In a large bowl, combine mayo, lemon juice, horseradish, paprika, and garlic powder, and stir to combine. You can use a hand mixer if needed, but a simple whisk will do.
  2. Fold in shrimp, celery, and green onions until evenly mixed together.
  3. Chill until ready to serve. You can serve it with crackers, potato chips, pork rinds, or your favorite veggies like carrot sticks, celery sticks, cucumbers, raw broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, and more!

Expert Tips

  • If using fresh shrimp or frozen shrimp that has not been cooked, heat a large skillet with a little olive oil and cook your raw shrimp before adding it to the dip. Chop into small pieces and make sure it cools at room temperature for a bit before combining with the other ingredients.
  • I prefer this creamy dip when served chilled, but if you want, you can serve it as a hot appetizer as well. Just microwave or transfer to an oven-safe baking dish and bake in the oven until heated through.
  • I personally love to eat this with paleo crackers or potato chips. You can even top it on some gluten-free toast! Choose your favorite cracker– if you’re not paleo, feel free to use Ritz crackers, tortilla chips, baguette slices, pita chips, and more.
  • For Whole30 options, serve this tasty shrimp dip with veggies like carrots, bell peppers, celery, radish, broccoli, and cauliflower.
  • If you are keto, serve with celery, bell peppers, jicama, pork rinds, or keto crackers like this one!
  • To spice it up, add a dash of hot sauce!

Storage Tips

Store leftover shrimp dip in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days in the fridge. Gently reheat to serve hot, or serve cold straight from the refrigerator.

You can make this dip a couple days ahead of time, making it the perfect choice for an easy appetizer to have at your next party, game day, holiday parties, or any occasion.

Would it be possible to use fresh horseradish from the produce dept and just shred it into it too? Iโ€™ve seen it at Whole Foods
