We eat homemade guacamole regularly at our house, and every single one of us can eat a ton of it in one sitting – kids included. While I love a classic guacamole, I sometimes like make variations of just to switch it up once in a while.

Fresh Guacamole with Tajin Dates

I recently made this delicious version by adding Medjool Date Strips with Tajin, and it’s my new favorite way to enjoy guacamole! Not only does the natural sweetness of the dates add to the flavor in a wonderful way, the Tajin seasoning gives an amazing zest and spice. Even my 4-year-old loves this version!

Ingredient Notes

  • Avocados: Make sure your avocados are ripe but not mushy.
  • Lime juice
  • Onion
  • Cilantro: You can omit if you don’t like cilantro, but we love it!
  • Garlic
  • Cumin
  • Natural Delights® Medjool Date Strips with Tajin: I’ve been snacking on these Medjool date strips often, and they are SO delicious – made by my favorite Medjool Date brand. Sweet and plump dates are coated in one of my favorite spice blends, Tajin (a blend of chili pepper, lime, and sea salt). The combination of the sweet and savory flavors are just wonderful. I love that they are always high quality made with simple ingredients without any added sugars. If you have a hard time finding these, you can substitute with regular Medjool dates and a teaspoon of Tajin.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Peel and seed the avocados, and scoop out the flesh into a large bowl.
  2. Pour lime juice over the avocados, and mash together with a fork or potato masher.
  3. Add onion, cilantro, garlic, cumin, salt, jalapeño pepper (if using), and chopped Medjool Date Strips with Tajin. Mix to combine.
  4. You can enjoy right or let it sit in the fridge for at least 15 minutes before serving so the flavors can meld together.
  5. Serve with tortilla chips or veggies, topped with more chopped Medjool Date Strips with Tajin.

Expert Tips

  • If you are making a double or a triple batch for a large group, I recommend using a potato masher to mash the avocados. Works like a charm and makes it so much easier!
  • If you can’t find Natural Delights® Medjool Date Strips with Tajin, you can just use regular Medjool dates chopped up and add 1 tsp of Tajin seasoning to achieve a similar flavor profile.

Storage Tips

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • To keep the guacamole from browning, cover the top layer with a plastic wrap OR cover with 1/2 inch of water. When ready to enjoy again, just pour out the water, stir, and dig in!
