What Makes This Recipe Great

When I created this air fryer biscuits recipe recently, I had my husband do a taste test. He isn’t gluten-free, and I wondered if he would think they tasted any different than the regular version he is used to.

I am so happy to report that he said these taste just like the popular canned biscuits he grew up eating as a kid.

This recipe takes a few simple ingredients and in less than 30 minutes you’ll have soft, flaky biscuits. Perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Bring them as a holiday side dish, or serve them as a snack. You really can’t go wrong!

Gluten Free Flour Blend: Make sure your flour blend includes xanthan gum (I used King Arthur’s).

Arrowroot Starch: You can also use tapioca starch.

Chilled Butter: For dairy free biscuits, you can use palm shortening or vegan butter.

Plain Yogurt: For dairy free, use a dairy-free yogurt alternative.

Recipe Step by Step

  1. In a large bowl, add your dry ingredients: gluten-free all-purpose flour, baking powder, arrowroot starch, baking soda, and sea salt. Stir to combine.
  2. Add in chilled butter and mix to combine.
  3. Stir in yogurt and honey until just combined.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees F, then spray the bottom of the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
  5. Use a 1/4 cup measuring cup to scoop the biscuit dough in and transfer it to the parchment-lined air fryer, making sure they are about 2 inches apart. Flatten to about 1½ inches thick. You may have to work in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
  6. Air fry for 9-11 minutes until golden all around. While still hot, brush the tops with melted butter – if desired. Serve warm.

Tips & Tricks

Oven Method: If you want to use the oven instead of making your biscuits in the air fryer, bake at 425 degrees F for 10-15 min until the biscuits are golden brown.

Reheating: To reheat biscuits, cook them at 350°F for 2 – 3 minutes in the air fryer.

Leftovers: You can store leftovers in a single layer in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. You can also refrigerate the biscuits if preferred.

Iโ€™ve been gluten free a long time and these were the best GF biscuits Iโ€™ve ever had. GF flours have come a LONG way. The first recipe I ever tried years ago were as hard and dense as hockey pucks. These could have been further from those. They were light, tender, and had great crumb. The air fryer version worked great. I used my air fryer setting on my oven. Seriously. So so good! Thank you!
