This iced strawberry matcha latte blends creamy green tea with fresh strawberries for a refreshing drink that’s as gorgeous as it is energizing. With real fruit, silky matcha, and frothy cold foam, this layered beauty delivers coffee shop vibes—without leaving your kitchen.

A tall glass filled with a layered drink featuring a pink foam on top, a green matcha middle with ice, and red strawberry puree at the bottom. A glass straw is inserted into the drink. Fresh strawberries and a bowl are in the background.

Why You’ll Love This Strawberry Matcha Latte Recipe

There’s something undeniably magical about the color combo here. The blush pink of the strawberries layered beneath the vivid green of ceremonial-grade matcha creates a drink that feels just as joyful to sip as it is to look at.

But this isn’t just about aesthetics. The sweet-tart strawberries are fresh (no syrups here), the milk is customizable to your preference, and the matcha delivers a gentle boost of focus without the crash of coffee. It’s an iced drink that feels indulgent but still nourishing, especially on hot afternoons when you need something cooling and satisfying. Did I mention that strawberry flavor?!

If you love matcha-based drinks, you might also want to try my Iced Matcha Bubble Tea for another layered treat, or 3-Ingredient Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream when you’re craving something creamy and frozen.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Ingredients on a light surface: a bowl of strawberries, bowls of heavy cream, matcha powder, vanilla extract, maple syrup, sugar, and a pitcher of milk, each labeled with their contents.
  • Matcha powder: Go for ceremonial grade matcha for the smoothest, least bitter flavor and the brightest color. It really makes a difference here.
  • Stemmed strawberries: Fresh, ripe berries provide that vibrant hue and natural sweetness. If using frozen, thaw first.
  • Sugar: Optional, depending on how sweet your strawberries are. You can also use honey or maple syrup.
  • Milk of choice: A plant-based milk like almond milk or oat milk, or regular whole milk all work. Almond milk keeps things light, while oat milk adds creaminess.
  • Heavy cream: Used to make the strawberry cold foam. Coconut whipping cream is a great dairy-free swap.
  • Maple syrup: Just a touch to sweeten the foam naturally.
  • Vanilla extract: Adds cozy, aromatic depth to the strawberry foam.

How to Make This Strawberry Matcha Latte

strawberry cold foam in a blender

Step 1: Blend the cold foam ingredients—strawberries, cream, maple syrup, and vanilla—for 5–10 seconds. It should be thick but still pourable. Don’t over-blend.

Step 2: In a small bowl, whisk matcha with hot (not boiling) water using a bamboo whisk or electric frother until frothy.

Step 3 (Optional): Muddle strawberries and sugar directly in your serving glass until juicy. For a smoother texture, you can blend instead.

Step 4: Fill the glass 3/4 of the way with ice cubes, then pour in your milk of choice. Gently pour in the matcha to create beautiful layers.

Step 5: Top with the strawberry cold foam and enjoy immediately with a wide-mouth straw!

Perfect Layering Tips

To get those dreamy layers:

  • Start with strawberry puree or muddled fruit at the bottom.
  • Add a tall layer of ice—this helps separate each component.
  • Slowly pour in milk.
  • Repeat with the matcha.

Cold ingredients layer better than room temp ones, so chill each part if you can before assembling.

Matcha Tips for Smooth, Bright Flavor

Sift your matcha before whisking to avoid clumps, and use water around 175°F to prevent bitterness. A bamboo whisk works best, but a handheld frother will do the trick too.

Store your matcha in an airtight container in the fridge to preserve its bright green color and mellow flavor.

Customizing the Strawberry Element

Prefer a smoother sip? Blend your strawberries instead of muddling. Want a boost in flavor? Macerate the berries with a bit of sugar for 10 minutes, or cook them down slightly into a compote.

For a fun twist, swap in strawberry milk for your base, or pair this drink with my Strawberry Cheesecake Cookies for a double strawberry treat.

Making It Dairy-Free

For a dairy-free version:

  • Use almond, oat, or coconut milk as your base.
  • Swap heavy cream for coconut whipping cream (Trader Joe’s has a great option).

You can also experiment with:

  • Aquafaba whipped with sugar for a light, airy foam
  • Silken tofu blended with strawberries and sweetener for a protein-rich topping

Storage Tips

This drink is best enjoyed fresh. The cold foam won’t hold up for long in the fridge, but you can prep components ahead:

  • Store strawberry puree for up to 2 days in the fridge
  • Pre-sift your matcha so it’s ready to whisk
  • Assemble without the cold foam and store in the fridge up to 24 hours

Recipe FAQs

Can I use culinary grade matcha instead?

Yes, but the flavor will be more bitter and the color more muted. If that’s what you have, use a little less and add extra sweetener.

Can I make this as a hot latte?

You can! Just skip the ice and gently warm your milk. Top with strawberry foam and enjoy right away—it won’t hold as long on a hot drink.

What’s the best way to avoid clumpy or bitter matcha?

Sift before whisking and use water that’s around 175°F (not boiling). Higher quality matcha also naturally tastes smoother.

This strawberry matcha latte is the perfect balance of sweet, earthy, and creamy—all in one beautiful, energizing glass. Making it at home means you control the sweetness, the quality of ingredients, and the experience. Next time you’re craving a colorful pick-me-up, give this a try and let me know how it turns out!
