How to Make Healthy Buffalo Chicken Dip
This homemade dip is extremely easy to make and comes together quickly if you use precooked chicken breasts or rotisserie chicken. You just mix the ingredients and bake, so it’s a perfect crowd-pleasing recipe that takes minimal effort for a party or a get-together.
The creaminess of the mayonnaise and the tanginess of the nutritional yeast are the perfect substitutes for cheese. The baking process really melds all the flavors together to create a phenomenal dairy-free and healthy buffalo chicken dip.
Ingredient Notes
- cooked shredded chicken: I like to purchase rotisserie chicken to make my life easier, but you can purchase chicken thighs or breasts and cook them yourself.
- mayonnaise: Make your own, or this is my favorite store-bought paleo brand.
- hot sauce: I like Frank’s Red Hot Sauce Original for that classic buffalo flavor.
- green onions
- nutritional yeast: This will give this chicken dip recipe a cheesy flavor without any dairy!
- onion powder
- garlic powder
- dill
- sea salt
- ground black pepper
- celery seeds
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Place all ingredients for the dip in a large mixing bowl and stir to combine. You can taste and add more hot sauce if you prefer.
- Transfer to a small baking dish and smooth out the top with a spatula.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes until the edges are lightly browned and bubbly.
- Serve warm.
Slow Cooker Method
If you’d rather use a crock pot to make slow cooker buffalo chicken dip, all you have to do is mix all ingredients, then add to a crock pot. Cook for 2 hours on HIGH, then serve!
Expert Tips
- To make this recipe super easy for you, you can use leftover cooked chicken or rotisserie chicken.
- If you only have raw chicken on hand, you can pan-fry 1 lb of boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs over medium-high heat for 5-6 minutes on each side before shredding them to use in this recipe.
- My favorite hot sauce to use for making my own buffalo sauce is Frank’s Red Hot Original. If you use another hot sauce with a different spice level, you may want to adjust the amount in the recipe.
- If you aren’t paleo or dairy free, you can use shredded cheddar cheese instead of nutritional yeast. You can also add some blue cheese crumbles just before serving the buffalo chicken dip if desired.
Serving Tips
- If you are looking for Whole30 and keto game day food, serve this dip with your favorite vegetables. My favorites are cucumbers, carrot sticks, celery sticks, and sliced bell peppers.
- If you aren’t necessarily Whole30 or keto, I love eating this yummy dip with grain-free crackers or tortilla chips!
- My husband and I love this buffalo chicken dip even as a meal. It’s delicious with a side of rice or cauliflower rice!
Storage Tips
- Store leftover buffalo chicken dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days chilled. To reheat the leftovers, you can microwave or heat them again in a 350-degree oven for 10-15 minutes.

I was skeptical about how a Buffalo chicken dip could be good without cheese and WOW! You proved me wrong! This was great!
Thank you!!
This was AMAZING and satisfied my pregnancy craving of buffalo chicken dip that I would have avoided otherwise because of the dairy. My husband thought it was just the regular buffalo chicken dip and didnโt notice a difference!
Ah I’m so so happy to hear that! Thank you so much!
How important is the nutritional yeast? ๐ฉโ๐ณ๐คฆโโ๏ธ Our local grocery doesnโt sale it.
You can make it without it. It gives a nice cheesy flavor but it’s not neessary.
Has anyone tried to freeze this? I love a good make-ahead meal!
I wouldn’t recommend it. The dip is mayo based, and mayo tends to separate when frozen and defrosted. It would change the texture.
This dish is perfection! The flavor is perfectly balanced and hits all the profiles! Made it for the Super Bowl and am obsessed. Want to have it on hand every week. Also want to put it on everything: salads, burgers, nachos, want to fry balls of them-so versatile. Thank you for sharing!!!
Thank you SO much!!
I cannot get over how delicious this recipe is. Iโm making another batch for my friend and my husband demanded I double it so we can have more! (I may have hogged the first batch)
has anyone ever tried this with greek yogurt, cream cheese, or sour cream? Looking for an alternative to the mayo.
I just made it with Kite Hill Almond sour cream and it was absolutely perfect! I imagine that dairy sour cream would work as well.
So good! Iโve been a few Whole30 approved buffalo chicken dips and this is by far my favorite. I added a touch more hot sauce. AMAZING
Yay!! So glad you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for trying it out!
Buffalo dip is so yummy – and so much easier than eating wings! This recipe is a total win for Keto, Paleo, and Whole 30!
Could I make this in a crockpot?
I don’t see why not. You can try cooking on low for 2 hours.
