I love avocados in all forms and it’s probably my favorite fruit (yes – it’s a fruit!) that I can eat 3 meals of the day. When I first heard of breaded avocado fries, I was a little hesitant. It seemed like an odd combo. But when I tasted it, I fell in love immediately. The crunchy outer layer complements the creaminess of the avocado so well, and it’s just a wonderful combo.

Paleo & Keto Avocado Fries Recipe

While most of the breaded avocado fries I’ve seen are heavily coated only with some kind of flour, I decided to make a version of low carb avocado fries using crushed pork rinds, or pork panko. The result is ultra crunchy with an added pork flavor that’s just so delicious and wonderful. The recipe is so easy and quick too!

How To Cut Avocados to Make Easy Avocado Fries

To make these crispy avocado fries, you’ll need to cut the avocados into long wedges first. Here’s how I do it:

  • Choose ripe avocados that still has some firmness when pressed, then slice in half.
  • Discard the pit then carefully remove the skin with your hands.
  • Slice each half into 1/4-1/2 inch slices. I got 6-7 slices per each half.

Ingredients in Low Carb Paleo Avocado Fries

  • avocados
  • lemon juice
  • coconut flour
  • eggs
  • pork panko: This is just crushed up pork rinds, but you can purchase them already ground up HERE.
  • garlic powder
  • paprika
  • sea salt

Directions: How to Make Avocado Fries in Air Fryer or Oven

These crispy avocado fries are easy to make in the air fryer or the oven. I personally prefer the air fryer because I think it comes out crispier than the baked version, plus it’s faster. I’ve tried both methods, and they are all delicious! Here’s how to make low carb and paleo avocado fries:

  1. Slice avocados into thin wedges, then sprinkle with lemon juice. Place on a plate.
  2. Set up an assembly line of 3 bowls: one with coconut flour, another with whisked eggs, and the last with pork panko and spices.
  3. Dredge an avocado slice in coconut flour, shake off excess, then dip in the egg wash. Lastly, dredge in the pork rinds mixture so all sides are covered. Transfer to a plate then repeat with the rest of the avocado slices.

To cook avocado fries in air fryer:

Preheat the air fryer to 375 degrees F, then arrange the avocado slices in a single layer on the air fryer tray. Spray with cooking oil, then air fry for 10 minutes until browned and crispy.

For baked avocado fries:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Add avocado slices to the baking sheet in a single layer, then spray with cooking oil. Bake for 12-14 minutes, flipping half way through.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of avocados work best?

You want use ripe avocados that aren’t TOO ripe. They should still have some firmness when you press into the skin. This will ensure that they won’t fall apart while slicing and cooking.

Why do you need lemon juice?

The purpose of lemon juice (or lime juice) for these paleo avocado fries is that they keep the avocados from turning bitter when cooked.

Can I make my own pork panko with pork rinds?

You can definitely do this easily. Just add pork rinds to a food processor and pulse until they turn to the texture of breadcrumbs.

Can I add cheese to the breading?

Yes! If you are keto and want to add cheese, you can replace 1/2 cup of the pork panko with parmesan.

What sauce goes well with these low carb avocado fries?

Anything you want! I personally love a fry sauce (ketchup and mayo), but you can enjoy with ranch, sriracha mayo, chipotle mayo, or even just ketchup!

How do I store leftovers?

These are best enjoyed fresh, but you can store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Just reheat in the oven or the air fryer to crisp them up again!
