When I first heard about raw donut holes, I was a bit hesitant to try them. Aren’t donuts supposed to be fried? Or even baked? However, after making several variations, I’m completely hooked on these no bake treats. Not only do these easy no bake donuts take a fraction of the time, the texture actually resembles fried or baked donuts so well!

Now that there’s a bit of chill in the air, I decided to make these apple cinnamon donut holes to get you in the mood for Fall. But they can be made all year round, especially when you want a quick treat without turning on the oven.

Vegan & Paleo Donut Holes Recipe with Apple Cinnamon Flavor

The best thing about gluten free vegan donut holes (or munchkins or timbits, as I’ve heard others call them) is that they are SO fast to make from start to finish. They also contain real apples to really bring out the flavor, and rolled in delectable cinnamon sugar to finish. The almond flour really gives these no bake apple donuts that fluffy, cake-like texture instead of truffles or energy bites.

Ingredients in These Raw Vegan Donut Holes

These apple cinnamon sugar donut holes just require 8 simple ingredients:

  • apple
  • blanched almond flour: You can use almond meal, but the texture may turn out more like an energy bite. Almond meal is not as fine nor fluffy in texture as blanched almond flour. I like this brand of blanched almond flour.
  • coconut sugar
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg
  • sea salt
  • coconut oil: If you aren’t vegan, ghee will also work instead of coconut oil.
  • vanilla extract

How to Make These Apple Cinnamon Donuts

  1. First, use a food processor to process the apple until chopped into tiny bits.
  2. In a mixing bowl, mix together together almond flour, coconut sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sea salt.
  3. Then add apple bits, coconut oil, and vanilla extract. Stir until a dough forms.
  4. Use your hands to roll the dough into about 10 balls.
  5. Now, make the cinnamon sugar by combining coconut sugar and cinnamon on a plate. If you want the coating to stick better, you can grind the coconut sugar to a fine powder in a blender or a coffee grinder then combine with cinnamon.
  6. Roll each of the paleo donut holes in the cinnamon sugar to coat evenly.
  7. Enjoy immediately, or chill in the fridge to firm up a bit.

Frequently Asked Questions About This No Bake Donut Recipe

What kind of apple is the best to use for these no bake apple donuts?

You can use any type of apples, but I personally prefer honeycrisp or Fuji for that bright and delicious apple flavor.

Can I use another flour besides almond flour?

If you don’t have almond flour on hand, you can try grinding up cashews into flour consistency and use that instead. Just be careful not to blend cashews for too long, because it’ll turn into butter.

Can I use another sweetener besides coconut sugar?

You can use any granulated sugar for these cinnamon sugar donut holes. If you want to use a liquid sweetener like maple syrup or honey, you may need to add a bit more flour to reduce the moisture.

How do you store leftovers?

Leftovers can be kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. The cinnamon sugar coating might absorb some moisture and seep into the donuts. If you don’t want this to happen and want that powdery layer, wait to coat these gluten free vegan donut holes until right before serving.

For a healthy snack it is not bad. It is a little grainy but the apples are really good. If it was not for the apples I would probably not like it.
